The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and life- long learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Diploma Programme Philosophy and Requirements

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program (DP) is a comprehensive two-year curriculum for 11th and 12th graders. This demanding curriculum provides a challenging pre-university course of study that is aligned with high international academic standards. The emphasis of the IB Diploma is global awareness, critical thinking, and community service, making it highly regarded by universities around the world.

To earn the highly regarded IB Diploma, students must complete required courses in all six subject areas: English, Math, Science, History, World Language, and a sixth subject. The student selects three subjects to complete at the higher level and three at the standard level. In addition, the student must fulfill three other critical components:

  • Complete Theory of Knowledge course
  • Complete a 4,000-word Extended Essay
  • Design and implement a Creativity, Activity, and Service program (CAS)

IB courses may allow a student to receive advanced placement or college credit, depending on the score a student earns for each subject and college/university policies. ISB believes that the IB Diploma Program is not just about earning a Diploma or college credit; rather, it's about committing oneself to a rigorous, two-year program that can help a student gain many of the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in college, at work, and in life.
